Welcome

Introduction

This blog aims to catalogue the steps required to get non-steam games of the mid 90s - late 2000s working on the Steam Deck. The focus will be primarily on installing PC games from GOG on the default Steam Deck OS although in many cases I will also mention installing disc based versions or other sources.

About this blog

I grew up in the 90s playing video games on Dads PC and N64. By the early 2000s I was firmly a PC gamer and still love many of the games from that era.

I received my Steam Deck in May 2022 and after the initial excitement I was a bit unsure what to use it for. My steam library is mostly business simulations/strategy games (Cities Skylines, Two Point, Stellaris, etc) which are best played with a mouse. I tend to play any first/third person games (Resident Evil, Mass Effect, No Mans Sky, etc) on my PS5.

So instead I decided my Deck would become something of a retro console. The ultimate collection of pre-2010 games which can be easily played with a controller all collected in one place.

To record the steps taken to get each game to work I have setup this blog, where I will document and share the different steps taken to get each game to work so that anybody else wanting to do the same can learn from my experience.

I see no reason anything here should in any way endanger the operation of your Steam Deck but obviously any tinkering you do is at your own risk. The information on this blog is provided purely for information purposes and without any warranty.
